Bidding Adieu to Becca Fong

It is our regrettable duty to inform you that the irreplaceable Becca Fong will be leaving the Seattle Parks Department and taking a job with Seattle Tilth starting on January 24th.

Were it not for the extraordinary efforts of Becca, the Miller CC Garden would be nothing more than an idea in the Parks docket instead of the full-blown community project it has become. In a very short time, Becca organized volunteers, led planning meetings, helped us set goals, had beds built and dirt delivered, facilitated the planting of the beds, and has most recently secured a bin and tools for on-site storage. She came to every single work party with a smile and an enthusiastic work ethic. She even helped us buy a few hundred pounds of fruit and turn them into canned goods.

It’s hard to imagine Miller CC Garden without Becca at the helm, but we’re so grateful to her for helping us get off the ground. Becca, we look forward to working with you in your new role at Tilth! We’ll do our best to make you proud as we carry on this great project you started.

Miller CC Garden gets tool storage

We’ll be all set once the work parties start up again in early spring!

In other news, the winter crops are hanging in there. Here’s the baby kale:

Who says gardens can’t be productive in the winter?
